Additional Details
This congested interchange operates poorly due to heavy traffic volumes both entering and exiting I-295, which conflict with heavy volumes along Route 168.
NJDOT has investigated options for improving traffic flow and safety throughout the corridor, addressing substandard features, and evaluated the impacts of the potential solutions. NJDOT proposes the following:
- Convert the Route 168, I-295 Interchange to a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) with a new bridge. The reduced conflict points improve safety. The shorter signal cycles improve traffic flow and capacity.
